Oakland-based indie garage punk trio Shannon and the Clams will be performing at the El Rey Theatre on September 23. The band has released three studio albums since 2009, the latest being Dreams in the Rat House released in 2014. The trio met at the California College of the Arts and soon began playing house parties and grimy clubs.
The group is led by the powerful vocals of bassist Shannon Shaw, with Cody Blanchard (vocals, guitar) and Ian Amberson (vocals, drums) rounding things out. They are known for exciting live shows in the Bay Area. Some of their influences include The Beach Boys, The Shangri- La’s, The Ronettes, and Patsy Cline.
The band is working on a new album entitled, Gone by the Dawn, set to release in September 2015.The band stated that the album was written as one member was recovering from a serious breakup and another was deep in one. The lyrics will reflect it by dripping with sadness, pain, and introspection. Be sure to catch Shannon and the Clams when they visit by the El Rey Theatre in September!
