Despite what almost 150,000 petitioners tried to prevent earlier this year, Kanye West did indeed perform at Glastonbury tonight and apparently killed it.
West took to the Pyramid Stage at the festival grounds in southwest England with a special guest: Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Pitchfork reported that the singer/songwriter/producer joined West onstage for a performance of “Lost in the Woods” from his famed 2010 record, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

After the song, West revealed that his verse was taken from an email he wrote while recording. It was to a woman whom he loved: Kim Kardashian, now his wife. West also called Vernon “one of the baddest white boys on the planet.” Vernon stayed on stage for a brief performance of Yeezus’ “Hold My Liquor.”
The Telegraph kept up with very mixed reviews via live tweets before and during his entire performance. According to its reports, West’s set started (on time) with “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” was accompanied by no dancers – “just his presence,” was interrupted by comedian Lee Nelson, included a “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-along and ended with a not-so-surprising self-endorsement (“You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet,” according to Telegraph writer Alice Vincent).

Though some people’s opinions were bound to remain unchanged regardless of the type of performance he gave, it seemed as though many were pleased; perhaps even impressed.
West is no stranger to surprise music festival performances – he joined both Stromae and The Weeknd for their sets at Coachella this year alone.
