Chaz Bundick, the frontman and creative force of Toro y Moi, has shared a new song, “2Late,” which the alternative artist released via SoundCloud. The new song features Kool A.D., who was best known for his past work with the now-disbanded Das Racist, and an affiliate of the group Safe.
Following the release of a music video for “Lilly”, Bundick has been dropping new material to his fans using SoundCloud, and the material he is putting out online differs considerably from songs that are found on the latest Toro y Moi release, What For?, which came out earlier this year. Prior to the release of “2Late,” Bundick had released, “Room for 1Zone,” a song that is heavily influenced by the trap-style of hip-hop.
“Room for the 1Zone” and “2Late” are hashtagged as #samantha on SoundCloud, and they have the same artwork of a young brunette woman wearing a blue t-shirt.
Once again, “2Late” finds Bundick continuing down the trap-style hip-hop pathway, but there are also influences of soul-pop in this latest SoundCloud sharing. This new track is underpinned by a catchy beat, as buzzing bass lines, and synthesized patches and jazz-inspired electronic piano come together to create something unique. The contributions of Kool A.D. and Safe are highlighted with Auto-tune as they croon rap-inspired lyrics. Then, Bundick takes over again to sing the final verses, and push his career into new territory with “2Late.”
