Chelsea Wolfe @ The Mohawk 9/19

Based in Los Angeles, California, Chelsea Wolfe is a singer who brings a great variety of elements into her work. With her father playing in a country band, Wolfe’s music experience started young as she recorded her first song at the age of nine. In her distinct sound of drone-metal-art folk, she is also known for her experimental guitar playing, soundscapes, and hazy vocals.

In 2006, Wolfe composed her first album, Mistake in Parting. She never officially released it because she thought it was “embarrassingly bad.” Learning from this, she then set aside more time in creating her next record. She now has over seven studio albums, with her latest, Abyss, set to be released in August of 2015. Her song, “Feral Love,” was used in the season four Game of Thrones trailer. Wolfe has also been featured as guest vocals in the metal band Russian Circles.

Wolfe’s free spirit in music has led her to great success with her unique sound. “I do have a hard time sticking to one genre, and honestly I prefer it that way. I’d rather be free to experiment and make the kind of art I want to make than be easy to define,” says Wolfe. The singer has a wide range of artists she looks up to, both in music and in film making. With her mix of gothic rock, black metal, folk, and other genres, Wolfe combines her sound with exciting visual elements in her shows.
