The Glitch Mob – Piece of the Indestructible

The Indestructible Melodies

The Glitch Mob is made up of Edward Ma, Justin Boreta and Josh Mayer. This is the first EP they’ve released since the successful Love Death Immortality. The trio is showing growth with the three-track Piece of the Indestructible. Despite its short length, the EP is incredibly cohesive and tells a story that runs through each of the five-minute tracks.

Piece of the Indestructible leads off with the instrumental “Head Full Of Shadows,” which is a bass-heavy banger of a song. As the track progresses, the drums slowly but surely get louder and more intense. Additionally, the opener is filled with fascinating synth melodies that instantly draw listeners in.

The second track “Better Hide, Better Run” consists of what can best be described as gritty and raw synths that set the song up as it leads into vocals from Mark Johns. The lyrics are fairly short and the synthesizers are the main focus. Although they are not the main focus of the track, the lyrics are filled with  tremendous emotion and depth. Johns sings, “Unquenched thirst for glory/sets off a loaded gun.” This track is particularly unique because it sounds like the type of song that listeners can turn up at full volume while dancing along with some close friends. The general vibe evokes summer memories, making it appropriate for this time of year.

Finally, the EP concludes with “The Clouds Breathe For You” which is much slower and softer than the preceding tracks. It doesn’t particularly follow the theme as far as the beat and tempo goes, but it shows an interesting layer to the work of The Glitch Mob. This song is an atmospheric one filled with many ambient-like emotions that are gradually uncovered as it continues. There’s also a tremendous amount of imagery delicately showcased here.

The Glitch Mob received a lot of positive reviews and gained additional fans after Love Death Immorality, and they will definitely call for the attention of even more with Piece of the Indestructible. The EP is a beautifully artistic piece of work and a testament to the growth and evolution of this explosive trio.
