Stagecoach always starts off with a bang as country music fans travel from all over to come see their favorite, new, old and upcoming country bands. This year was no different, but fans were met with less heat and a little more dust on their boots.
Numerous bands hit the stages on the first day, including Zach Top, whose deep voice is reminiscent of classic ’90s country. Alana Grace packed the Honky Tonk with a DJ set full of hits. Hailey Whitters graced the Mane Stage this year, making a return to Stagecoach after a previous year on a smaller stage, showing the growth of her career and how much her fans take to her music.
Jelly Roll was a fan favorite set, with numerous hits like “Wild Ones” and “Halfway to Hell.” Jelly Roll also brought out numerous guests during his set, including T-Pain, Maddie & Tae, and Ernest, whom he’s written songs with. Near the end of his set, he brought out his wife and daughter on stage to share the moment of performing at his first Stagecoach. During that, the audience sang happy birthday along with him to his daughter, who is turning 16 next week. Jelly Roll ended his set with a touching motivational speech about being an underdog and closed with his hit “Lost Cause.”
Headlining the first night of ’24 was Eric Church. As a Stagecoach veteran, having headlined numerous times, Church gave the crowd a really unique set. Positioned on a stool with just an acoustic guitar, Church sang with the support of a gospel style choir. He sang medleys of “This Little Light of Mine,” “Oh When the Saints,” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” The set, with a stunning stained glass, cathedral style background was a beautiful ending to a packed day.
