Death Cab For Cutie is an alternative rock band from Bellingham, Washington. The group was originally started when founder Ben Gibbard released a demo album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, in 1997. After a positive response, he decided to expand his project into a full band. The trio now consists of talent from him, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr. Nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, the band has continued success for almost two decades.
Over the years, the group has become known as “one of contemporary music’s most compelling and creative collectives.” Their eighth studio album, Kintsugi, was released in March of 2015. The name relates to a Japanese art involving the philosophy to repair damage from the past instead of covering it. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart and has received outstanding favorable reviews from a range of critics.
Incorporating chorus melodies to detailed song writing, Death Cab For Cutie has reached Platinum certification and has topped Billboard numerous times. The band consistently works to improve their sound and create new music. They are now planning to begin their North American tour, bringing along Twin Shadow as support. The band has added a second show in Austin after selling out their original event.
