Run The Jewels, the rap duo of El-P and Killer Mike, are slowly providing fans with snippets of their upcoming release, Meow The Jewels, a remix of their Run The Jewels 2 album that features cat sounds.

Although Meow the Jewels began as something of a promotional joke, when the rappers were releasing Run the Jewels 2, it quickly gained momentum online via a Kickstarter campaign. The fan-run campaign went on to hit their target goal of approximately $40,000 to fund an album remix comprised entirely of cat sounds. Following the successful Kickstarter, El-P and Killer Mike met with Sly Jones, the fan that launched the campaign, in 2014.

Last month, the duo provided their fans with a preview of “Angelmeowster,” a remix of “Angel Dust,” which was created by Dan The Automator.

Now, El-P has shared a clip of “Creown,” the remix of “Crown.” Even remixed with cats, this Alchemist-produced track remains catastrophically brutal, due to the nature of the lyrics. But, the cats do give the song a certain deceptively up-beat ambiance, on one hand; and, on the other, the angry-sounding meows provide tension that compliment the dark lyrical content.
