Portland, Oregon based metal band Agalloch is set to begin their North American tour on Friday, June 6. The monthlong tour will both begin and end in the group’s home state of Oregon, and come to Northern California and Los Angeles.
Called by the band the Serpens in Cvlmination West Coast Tour, this is the latest string of concerts since the band’s release of The Serpent and the Sphere at this time last year. The album, a progressive metal piece with folk aspects, featured guest Nathanaël Larochette of Musk Ox on acoustic guitar. Their work received mostly positive reviews, with a 8.3/10 rating on Pitchfork, which said it was “their most refined and generous album to date, an elegant trip to unexpected ends”.
Agalloch was formed in 1996 by vocalist and guitarist John Haughm and keyboardist Shane Breyer, and quickly expanded to include guitarist Don Anderson and bassist Jason William Walton. The Northwestern-based group started out as a purely black metal band, but has grown in musical complexity, and their material now spans the metal spectrum. Most of their songs have to do with winter or Mother Nature in general, and serve as a tribute to the mighty forces of the Earth. Their best known works are Marrow of the Spirit and The Mantle, both odes to the beauty of the natural world.
