Minneapolis legend Morris Day and his band The Time will be performing at the Santa Monica Pier on July 9 with modern funk artist Dâm Funk. The concert is part of KCRW’s free, all ages Twilight Concert series and KCRW DJs will serve as hosts for many of the evenings.
“Santa Monica is our home and we love the Pier,” said Scott Painter, TrueCar’s chief executive officer and founder. “We want to help keep the city a lifestyle hub as we work to attract tech talent. The Twilight Concert Series is part of what makes Santa Monica such a vibrant place to live and work.”
Morris Day will be a great way to start off the summer nights. Day went to school with Prince and sang in Prince’s first band Grand Central. The Time was originally created as Prince’s alter-ego to be seen as the cool, street-wise funk band contrasting Prince’s more soulful R&B sound. After looking at several lead vocalists, Prince wanted someone with mad talent so he cast his high school friend, Day. Soon after, Morris Day and the Time were cast in Purple Rain which captured the exploding Minneapolis music scene at its peak. Be sure to catch Morris Day and The Time in July!
