Tuscon, Arizona based band Calexico have announced additional Fall dates to add to their 2015 tour. The group will now be playing in the Midwest and South, as well as back in their native Arizona. This announcement comes at the beginning of Calexico’s 2015 tour, which began in Chicago on Saturday, May 30th. From there they will go to Canada, then back to the Northeastern US.
This tour comes on the heels of the band’s April release of Edge of the Sun. Their first release since 2012’s Algiers, the album expanded Calexico’s sound to include synthesizers and other electronic distortion. The band is usually known for its classic Americana feel, supported by the use of traditional rock instruments. However, singer and frontman Joey Burns has stated in interviews that he is open to utilize more contemporary instruments in his music. Burns has also spoken about the meaning of the album: “All in all, this album is about pushing through the blue to brighter days. Calexico has always had that element of hope, going back and forth between a positive outlook and embracing desperate or dark themes that I think we all share.” Keyboardist Sergio Mendoza co-wrote and arranged a handful of tracks on the album, which was co-produced by Burns, John Convertino and longtime friend Craig Schumaker.
