The Minneapolis-native band Soul Asylum will perform at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip on July 20. The band formed in 1981 by high school friends Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Dave Pirner. The band currently consists of Pirmer, Michale Bland (drums), Winston Roye (bass), and Justin Sharbono (lead guitar, backing vocals). The group’s latest album was Delayed Reaction, released in 2012 which debuted at #160 on Billboard.
Soul Asylum’s first deal was with Twin/Tone where it recorded four albums under the label. The band then switched over to A&M releasing two albums under that label. It wasn’t until the band switched over to Columbia Records in 1992 and released Grave Dancers Union that Soul Asylum transformed from an underground band into an internationally recognized one.
The song “Runaway Train” peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Soul Asylum also won the Grammy for Best Rock Song from the same song. Be sure to check them out in July 20.
