Alternative hip-hop group Jurassic 5 will perform at Club Nokia on July 9. The group formed in 1993 from members of two previous groups, Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee at the Los Angeles, California venue Good Life. They achieved an acclaimed position in the 1990s alternative hip-hop movement.
The group consists of rappers Charles Stewart (Chali 2na), Dante Givens (Akil), Courtenay Henderson (Zaakir aka Soup), Marc Stuart (Marc 7), and DJs Mark Potsic (DJ Nu-Mark) and Lucas Macfadden (Cut Chemist). The group split in 2007 but later reformed in 2013 for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and an international tour. To date, Jurassic 5 has released four albums, the latest Feedback in 2006 and Chali 2na stated that the group had discussed plans of putting out a live album sometime in the near future.
