American indie-rock band Neutral Milk Hotel will perform at the Warner Grand Theatre on May 27. The band was formed by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Jeff Mangum in the early 1990s. They reformed in 2013 and have since released the EP Ferris Wheel on Fire, containing songs written between 1992 and 1995.
Neutral Milk Hotel began just as a recording project for Mangum in Ruston, Louisiana. He produced several cassettes including the 1991 Invent Yourself a Shortcake, 1992’s Beauty and 1993’s Hype City Soundtrack. The band built a cult following within the indie-music scene when the group disbanded in 1999, with Jeff Mangum enjoying almost legendary status. On April 29, 2013, the band announced a fall reunion tour with their original In the Aeroplane Over the Sea lineup via their record label’s website.
Even though the band has only released two studio albums and two EPs, it has had a tremendous influence on numerous groups, including Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Beirut, Franz Ferdinand, Bright Eyes and The Decemberists. Their final tour goes from the Spring of 2015 into the summer. Be sure to catch Neutral Milk Hotel at the Warner Grand Theatre later this month.
