Singer songwriter Joy Williams will perform at the El Rey Theatre on May 19. She is the winner of four Grammy awards and has released four solo albums and four solo EPs since 2001. Williams has had several of her songs featured prominently in hit TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Drop Dead Diva, CW’s 90210, and The WB’s One Tree Hill.
Williams grew up singing in the church and she began writing faith-based pop songs while living in Santa Cruz. At 17, she was signed by Reunion Records. Williams achieved success between 2001 and 2005 and was nominated for 11 Dove Awards, and the three records she released on Reunion cumulatively sold more than 250,000 albums. In 2005 she left the label because her perspective had changed since she had started recording for Reunion at 17. She returned to her solo career in 2009, releasing a series of EPs under her Sensibility Music label.
William’s music folk rock, pop, and Contemporary Christian. Last month, Williams released the debut single “Woman (Oh Mama)” off her upcoming album Venus on her personal website. Be sure to catch Joy Williams at the El Rey Theatre next month!
