Family of the Year @ World Cafe Live 6/17

Even if you didn’t know their name, you definitely knew their hit track “Hero.” The song was a mainstay during awards season as it featured prominently in Oscar-winning film Boyhood. The album was formed by brothers Joseph and Sebastian Keefe. They went out to release their debut EP (as a self-release) in 2009. They would go on to tour with Ben Folds and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Their sound, a blend of male/female vocal harmonies with folk-story lyrics complimented those stages well.

A few months later, in November of 2009, Family of the Year released their debut full-length Songbook. Their follow-up EP dropped in March of 2010, under the band’s own imprint Washashore Records. Then in 2012, they released their sophomore album, Loma Vista. Following that release, Family of the Year were appearing on a slew of emerging artist lists. And their album peaked at #35 on Billboard‘s Top Heatseekers Chart.

But they’ve probably found their biggest success through their breakout hit, “Hero.” The single itself peaked at #12 on Billboard‘s Alternative Chart. They sold out several stops along their first headlining tour back in 2013, including right here in Philly.  So don’t wait to grab your tickets for their upcoming show at the delightfully intimate World Cafe stage. Family of the Year will be in town this June and you can grab your tickets now.
