Toronto based hardcore-punk band Fucked Up is working on the newest segment of their Zodiac Signals Series. Year Of The Hare will be the follow-up to last years installment Year Of The Dragon. To build up anticipation for the release of Year Of The Hare Fucked Up released a new song titled “California Cold.”
The new song “California Cold” is a multi-phased cut. The beginning of the track has a nostalgic sound that takes the listener back to the post-punk sonically structured pieces of the previous decades.The rugged vocalization from lead singer Damian Abraham comes in like a kick in the chest as he delivers a powerful verse and hook. The track then transitions into a sublime groove sequence, equipped with a jazz flute. This transition comes off as a beautiful chaos with multiple instruments layering each other while playing different repetitive patterns. This chaos carries throughout the track for a healthy of minutes before it settles into something much like the calm after the storm with the sounds of crickets guiding the track to its stopping point. The sections of the song give a sense of journey to the track, and in the grand scheme of a project the multiple phases that can be found throughout each song will create a musical masterpiece.
Fucked Up specializes in this brand of music. Looking through their catalog it is easy to see that the Fucked Up sound has been in the works for a long time, and will continue to only get better and more innovative. Fucked Up does not stick to one genre -or sub-genre- of rock. Instead of sticking to one sound, the band ventures through soft, metal, and indie rock all at the same time which helps create their free flowing song structure. Fans like Fucked Up because their music is good to the ears, but fans stay around mainly because Fucked Up never disappoints.

Last year Fucked Up had a busy year releasing multiple projects. During the second quarter of last year Fucked Up released two full lengths titled Glass Boys, and Year Of The Dragon. Year Of The Hare will be the seventh installment in the Zodiac Signals Series, and Fucked Up’s thirteenth project overall. Fucked Up is looking to cement decade-long career, and looking towards becoming rock gods. Last year also saw the release of a few singles from the group such as “Blink”, “The Way We Did”, and “Led By Hand ft. J.
