One of the most notable new wave groups from the 80s, Culture Club, will make its way to the Greek Theatre on July 24. The group is famous for having the charismatic Boy George as its lead singer. During the early 80s, Culture Club delivered seven straight Top Ten hits in the U.K. and six Top Ten singles in the U.S. In 1984, Culture Club won the Brit Award for Best British Group, the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and Best British Single for “Karma Chameleon.”
The band is known worldwide and has sold more than 100 million singles and more than 50 million albums to date. The song “Time (Clock of the Heart)” was included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. Despite Boy George’s controversial persona, the music Culture Club creates has broad appeal and is easily accessible to all audiences.
Currently, the band is working with legendary producer Youth (The Verve, Killing Joke, The Cult, Crowded House, Primal Scream) on their highly anticipated new release expected this fall. It will be the group’s first album since the release Don’t Mind If I Do in 1999. Be sure to catch Culture Club at the Greek Theatre this July!
