After 19 years of studio silence, Failure is returning in a big way with the release of their first project since their 1996 album, Fantastic Planet. The new LP is scheduled to be released on June 30, 2015.
The Heart Is A Monster is the hotly-anticipated result of a 17-year hiatus. Failure reentered the spotlight in 2014 when they took the stage for a single show in Los Angeles. The success of the show propelled them to a high-energy tour alongside Tool. Lead singer Ken Andrews has admitted that they had been writing new music during this time and experimenting with their sound in the studio since 2013. Word of the band working on a new album began spreading quickly last year.
The new LP will feature one more song than their previous release, arriving at 18 tracks total. Its construction has been reported by the band as very similar to Fantastic Planet in that the flow of songs will align with the timeline of their production. The first single, “Hot Traveler,” is all that has been let go so far. Failure incorporated the new song into their SXSW performance this year at Yahoo Brazos Hall.
Failure has come a long way since the release of their first studio album, Comfort, in 1992. The announcement of their fourth studio release marks a new era for the band, one that reveals an electric reentrance into the modern music scene as well as an admirable allegiance to their true sound. The Los Angeles-based trio isn’t done by any means, and we can’t wait to hear what The Heart Is A Monster has in store.
In addition to their coming album release, Failure also has more shows planned, as well as future tour dates in the works.
