Diplo is hard at work on his new album Peace Is The Mission due out in June. Reported features for the follow up to Diplo’s 2013 album Free The Universe include Travis Scott, Pusha T, and MØ to name a few. Two days ago Diplo released a picture alongside Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant with the caption “collab coming soon.”
Super producer Diplo has a diverse catalog that ranges throughout the entire spectrum of music. He’s managed to merge all forms of popular into a sonically pleasing cohesive sound that can still be traced to his EDM roots. The Instagram post could mark the beginning of new material from Robert Plant. Robert Plant was recently in the news for his live collaboration with former White Stripes frontman Jack White at Lollapalooza Argentina. White and Plant covered Led Zeppelin’s classic “The Lemon Song.” This led to some speculation as to what Robert Plant was up to, and the release of this photo with Diplo points in the direction of a collaborative effort in the works. Diplo would certainly be bridging the gap between then and now. Robert Plant would certainly have to evolve to find success in the current wave of music, and there is no better producer currently to aid in this process than Diplo. Diplo has the unique ability to see potential in each artist, and in turn cater to each artist’s strengths to help them reach new levels, which is a recipe for amazing content.
There might not be a Diplo – Plant collaboration on Peace Is The Mission seeing as Plant has no credits reflected on the album’s track listing, but it is known that there has been some exchange of ideas between the two musicians. Plant may be able to recapture his once glorified status without doing a Led Zeppelin reunion. He recently turned down a hefty contract to go back on tour with his former band. Meanwhile in Diplo’s camp, Diplo has been releasing content with his Major Lazer and Mad Decent collectives respectively, and putting out remixes in his spare time. Also Diplo dropped the surprise Jack Ü album with fellow EDM producer Skrillex.
The possibility of a Robert Plant and Diplo collaboration comes at the perfect time. As mentioned before Plant is interested in creating new music, and Diplo is always on the forefront of music, and always has the intention of pushing the envelope to see what direction music can go. Maybe going back in time to the rugged sounds of the Led Zeppelin era will open up a new path that Diplo has not yet gone down. The world can only wait and imagine.
