Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers will make a stop at the Fonda Theatre during their US tour in May. The band formed in 1986 in Blackwood, Wales, and has released 12 albums since then. The most recent was the 2014 release of Futurology, which reached #2 on UK albums Official Chart Company.
The band was inspired by The Clash and Sex Pistols in the early 90s when they came out dressed in glam. Their goal was to restore political revolution in rock ‘n’ roll. The “Manics” consist of James Dean Bradfield (vocals, guitars), Nicky Wire (bass, occasional vocals) and Sean Moore (drums, backing vocals, occasional trumpet). Original lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards mysteriously vanished on Feb. 1, 1995 and he was declared presumed deceased in November 2008. The band has moved on without him but they have never forgotten him. The 2009 album Journal for Plague Lovers consists posthumous lyrics by Edwards.
Throughout the years, Manic Street Preachers had eight top ten albums and fifteen top ten singles. They have won a multitude of awards during their career as well. Among them was the 10th Greatest Album of All Time (The Holy Bible) by Kerrang! and Best Band In The World Today by Q Awards in 1998. The band has a storied past but they are still continuing to revitalize rock ‘n’ roll. Don’t miss out as the Manics drop by at the Fonda Theatre in May.
