Charli XCX recently released a new video for her song “Famous”. Known for her edgy and unique music videos, “Famous” too offers an interesting and fresh perspective.
Rolling Stone reports that Charli XCX collaborated with Eric Wareheim of Time and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! to create this video as part of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards. The video focuses on the teen obsession with social media. This trend amongst teenagers is fairly common and serves as a interesting choice for Charli XCX to pinpoint and critique.
The video follows a fan girl of Charli XCX who is seen watching a video of the music star on her phone. In two incidents when both her phone and Ipad die, nightmare-like people appear to take the protagonist away. Once her devices die for good, the fan is transported into another universe where different people are seen with cell phones watching an ugly morphed version of Charli XCX. The adventure continues and fans can give the full music video below. Rolling Stone commented that the idea of the music video focuses on screen causing the main character (which could be representative of real people) to lose her sense of reality and humanity.
In late December of 2015, Charli XCX released her second studio album, Sucker. The album received rave reviews as the album show cased a wide range of Charli XCX’s musical/vocal talents. Additionally, Charli XCX earned her YouTube Music Award from singles such as “Boom Clap” and “Break The Rules” from the Sucker album.
