WATCH: Neil Peart, Danny Carey And Stewart Copeland Jam Together

The term “supergroup” is one that has certainly become abused over the last decade, as many of the groups that have dared to use the term became anything but. While not a “supergroup” in the technical sense, the group that came together to put together the jam that we are now about to show was certainly not one to sneeze at.

Neil Peart of Rush. Stewart Copeland of The Police. Danny Carey of Tool. Those three names alone carry a legacy in and of themselves that belong in the annals of music history for generations to come. Putting those names together, however, surely raises a few eyebrows. Although the three men share technical skills that complement each other, their styles are almost so differing that when one hears the jam session that was titled “A Little More Noise,” it catches one by surprise. After the year long reunion tour with The Police, Stewart Copeland hosted several jam sessions at his Sacred Grove studio. Although not quite yielding anything concrete as far as records are concerned, the sessions did produce several respectable moments, such as the one captured here. The jam that these musicians produced has all the elements of blues, jazz, and even a little splash of rock thrown in for the kids. Interestingly enough, the jam session featured below also included a couple of “oddball” names to it. The one that stands out the most is South Park co-creator Matt Stone, and even Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon fame sat in on the session. While it is a little disappointing to not see Copeland behind the skins, he plays one mean rhythm guitar during the session, playing to such an effect that one forgets for a moment that he’s primarily a drummer.

Although all three musicians are respected by millions in their own right, Danny Carey in particular is no stranger to collaborative efforts. Carey, after all, has been one of the principal contributors to a burgeoning new group comprised of members of both Tool and Mastodon, calling themselves The Legend Of The Seagullmen, a group that has been generating quite a buzz lately. The jam session with Peart and Carey, as well as several other jam sessions held at the Sacred Grove, have been emerging on YouTube in recent months.
