Sufjan Stevens @ Academy of Music 4/10

Sufjan Stevens will release a new album on March 31st. Shortly thereafter, he’ll head out on a much anticipated spring tour that will make its first stop right here in Philly with a performance at the Academy of Music. Tickets are on sale now, so act quickly, before this one sells out!  You can catch Sufjan Stevens when he plays the Academy on April 10th.

Sufjan Steven’s upcoming release has been called a return to his folk roots. The album, Carrie & Lowell, is named after his mother and stepfather. It also mark’s Stevens’ first solo full-length release in nearly five years. In the off-time, he has still been hard at work. One of his most recent works was composing and performing the live score for a Brooklyn Academy of Music-commissioned film “ROUND-UP.” He also recently worked with the New York City Ballet to create a modern dance program set to Stevens’ Enjoy Your Rabbit, as well as an original core for choreographer/dancer Justin Peck’s ballet Everywhere We Go.

Carrie & Lowell is the follow up to Stevens’ 2010 album The Age of Adz. In support of that album, Sufjan Stevens performed a sold out show at the Academy of Music, so it’s anticipated that this show will sell out as well. You can watch the trailer for the upcoming album here. The 11-track release comes courtesy of Asthmatic Kitty, a record label led by Sufjan Stevens himself (as well as the stepfather who inspired the album, Lowell Brams).  Joining Sufjan Stevens for his Academy of Music return will be Cold Specks, a Canadian singer-songwriter.
