Weird Al Yankovick is an American singer-songwriter, musician, parodist, record producer, satirist, actor, music video director, film producer, and author. He is known for his humorous songs that make light of popular culture and often parody specific songs by contemporary musical acts, origional songs that are style pastiches of the work of other acts, and polka medleys of several popular songs.
Weird Al is the biggest selling comedy recording artist in history. He is in his fourth decade of his career, and has won three Grammys (with 15 nominations) and countless accolades for classics like “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” “Yoda,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “White & Nerdy,” and more. This current tour his is embarking on is following the release of his latest album, Mandatory Fun, which reached number one on Billbaord’s Top 200 chart. His album was the first ever comedy album to debut in the top position.
Mandatory Fun, premiered eight videos in eight days to break its release. The eight videos included parodies of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” (“Tacky”), Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (“Word Crimes”), Lorde’s “Royals” (“Foil”), and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” (“Handy”). The videos gained over 46 million views in the first week. “Word Crimes” debuted in the Billboard Top 40, making Al one of only three people to have had Top 40 singles in each of the last four decades; the other two are Michael Jackson and Madonna.
