The influence of Fleetwood Mac stretches into several different genres and groups. The latest to broadcast Fleetwood Mac as a musical influence was Deer Tick, who performed a version of “Rhiannon” with none other than Stevie Nicks herself.
Deer Tick closed out their six-night residency in Brooklyn by performing a great rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” with none other than the songwriter herself: Stevie Nicks. Deer Tick have been undertaking a residency in Brooklyn to celebrate their tenth year as musical unit, and the performance with Stevie Nicks was one that will undoubtedly leave an impression on both themselves and the audience for years to come. Footage of the performance was recently posted on YouTube, and although the footage itself is shaky and rather low-quality (it was shot by a fan during the performance), it still captures the brilliance of the dual performance to a ‘T.’ Stevie Nicks brings her vocal style to the front, pushing the song as far as she can and beyond that. Along with the group, Nicks casts her usual spell over the audience, surprising many in attendance with her ability to share the stage with a group that she’s never really performed with before. Her energy feeds the group, and the group’s energy feeds the crowd, which in turn cycles back around and feeds Deer Tick again.
This is not the first cover that Deer Tick has undertaken during their Brooklyn residency. They also did a full cover of The Beatles second album, Meet The Beatles in its entirety. They have also covered such diverse artists as Lou Reed and Devo! during their stay in Brooklyn, celebrating the different musical talents that shaped their sound. News on upcoming records is pretty scarce at the moment, but their Brooklyn performances will no doubt yield a creative spark that could see a new record in the mix very soon.
