Real Estate performed a version of Weezer’s “No Other One” and were joined by Rivers Cuomo.
Both Rivers Cuomo and Weezer have been in a state of self-evaluation after the release of their ninth record in nearly twenty years. The release of Everything Will Be Alright In The End, Weezer once again finds themselves conflicted as to what direction to go in from here, an issue that has been at the core of the band ever since their hit record Pinkerton came out in 1996. With Rivers Cuomo becoming the central subject in a new sitcom by Fox, there may be yet another period of re-evaluation from the popular alternative group. Regardless of which musical direction the group decides to go in, there can be little doubt of the scope of the influence of Weezer, an influence made more clear when Real Estate performed a version of “No Other One” during the 30 Days In LA concert series.
Adding to the hype of the performance, Real Estate were joined by none other than Weezer’s own guitarist, Rivers Cuomo. While it took a few moments for the band to get warmed up and into the groove, Real Estate’s performance of the Pinkerton classic perhaps gave Cuomo himself a moment of pride. As the influence of Weezer continues to expand, it’ll be interesting to see what new musical directions Cuomo and the group branches out into in the coming months and years.
