Wale is an American Rapper from Washington D.C. He gained his fame in 2006 when his song “Dig Dug (Shake It)” became popular in his hometown. Wale became locally recognized and continued recording music for regional audience. Producer Mark Ronson discovered him later that year and signed him to Allido Records. While signed to that label, Wale released several mixtapes and appeared on national media MTV and various urban magazines.
In 2008, Wale signed to Interscope Records for 1.3 million dollars. In 2009 he released his debut album, Attention Deficit, with the singles “Chillin,” “Pretty Girls” and “World Tour.” In 2011, Wale signed on with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, where he released his second studio album, Ambition. His third album, The Gifted, was released in June 2013, and reached number one on the Billboard 200.
In an interview with Flavorwire, Wale said that he incorporates elements of go-go, “a more raw, percussion-driven offshoot of disco” in his music. Wale’s early singles are a prime example of 1990s go-go influenced music.
