They Might Be Gaints @ Stubb’s Bar-B-Q 5/14

They Might Be Giants is an American alternative rock band that formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. The group is best known for an unconventional and experimental style of alternative music. Over their career, they have found success on the modern rock and CMJ charts. More recently they have also found success in children’s music, and in theme music for several television programs and films.

The band has released 16 studio albums. Their album Flood has been certified platinum and their three children’s albums Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, and Here Comes Science have all been certified gold. The band has won a total of two Grammy Awards, one for their song “Boss of Me,” and one for their album Here Come the 123s. In total, the band has sold over four million records.

John Linnell stated that the band has “a thread that runs along everything we’ve ever done…We’re always trying to do new things—new styles, experimenting with things that are pretty/ugly or kind of atrocious sounding or purely weird—but we also love pop songs. Despite how we may try to change things up, I think we’re still trying to meet the same kinds of criteria ultimately. We are still, in the end, trying to make songs that we want to hear.”
