Dr. Dog is a rock band from West Grove, Pennsylvania. It’s lineup consists of Toby Leaman (bass guitar), Scott McMicken (lead guitar), Frank McElroy (rhythm guitar), Zach Miller (keyboard), Eric Slick (drums), and Dimitri Manos (multi-instrument). The band has a unique sound of indie rock, and is strongly influenced by bands of the 1960s including The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
Leaman and McMicken first started playing music together in middle school. Their early recording were experimental and recorded on eight track. They self-recorded and self-released their first album, The Psychedelic Swamp, in 2001 which was followed by Toothbrush in 2002. Their early years were spent largely in and around Philadelphia where they developed a small but dedicated fanbase.
On January 13, Dr. Dog will release Live at Flamino Hotel, their first live album. Leaman stated, “we’re one thing on a record and a different thing live. Somebody goes to a DR. DOG show and they come back again and they bring more people with them. Our live show is vital to how we view ourselves as a band.”
