After grieving the loss of his good friend and touring keyboardist, Jack White has reunited with the other members of The Dead Weather to continue releasing series of singles. This week saw the release of a new 7” vinyl track “Buzzkill(er)” which contains a song titled, “It’s Just Too Bad”, as the b-side.
These singles are a precursor to The Dead Weather’s third full length album, which is due out in 2015. And, if you’ve missed the other singles that were previously released in December 2013, here are our articles on “Open Up (That’s Enough)” and “Rough Detective.”
“It’s Just Too Bad” has elements of a gritty blues track married with the dissonant clattering sounds of garage rock. Dead Weather front woman Alison Mosshart belts out the lyrics over pounding drums, screeching guitar lines, and a rumbling bass – the combination of which Rolling Stone described as “shambolic riffage”, illustrating that there can be beauty in frenetic, echo-filled chaos.
The group recorded these songs during downtime with their other individual projects. The audio of “Buzzkill(er)” is official and was released by the band, but “listeners will have to imagine “It’s Just Too Bad” playing slower and lower,” according to Rolling Stone, as it is not an officially released clip.
