Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band that formed in Amherst Massachusetts in 1984. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums). After three albums on independent labels, the band earned a reputation as one of the biggest influences on alternative rock. Due to creative tension, Masics fired Barlow and replaces him with Mike Johnson who recorded three albums with Dinosaur Jr.. The group later disbanded in 1997. The original lineup reformed in 2005, and released three albums together.
Dinosaur Jr. is considered an alternative rock band; however, the bands musical style was heavily influenced by classic rock. Gerald Cosloy, head of Homestead Records, summarized the band’s music as “its own bizarre hybrid…It wasn’t exactly pop, it wasn’t exactly punk rock — it was completely its own thing.”
The bands latest release, I Bet on Sky, is their tenth studio album. Their leading single off the album was “Watch the Corners” which was released alongside it’s music video and free mp3 for promotional purposes. According to Metacritic, a group which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 reviews from mainstream critics gave, I Bet on Sky, an average of 75 based off of “favorable reviews.”
