Darius Rucker is an American country musician. He first gained fame as the lead singer and rythem guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, which he founded in 1986 at the University of South Carolina along with Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld and Dean Felber. The band released five studio albums, and charted six top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Rucker co-wrote the majority of the bands sons with the other three members.
Rucker released his first solo album, Back to Then, under the R&B genre in 2002 on Hidden Beach Recordings. In 2008, Rucker singed to Capitol Records in Nashville as a country music artist. He released his album, Learn to Live, that same year. The albums first single was “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.” The single made him the first black man to chart a number one on the Hot Country Songs charts since Charley Pride in 1983.
Rucker later had two more number one singles “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” and “Alright.” In 2009, Rucker became the first black man to win the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association. In 2010, Rucker released his album, Charleston, SC 1699, which includes his number one singles “Come Back Song” and “This.” His latest album is, True Believers, which was released last year, and features his cover of the single “Wagon Wheel” originally done by Old Crow Machine. Ruckers cover maed number one on the Hot Country Songs chart.
