Leave it to PBR to throw the hipster festival of the year. The Project Pabst Festival in Portland, Oregon (where else?) promises to be a weekend to make all your indie dreams come true. Project Pabst is PBR’s “love letter to Portland,” as well as a “one-of-a-kind music experience” with “an endless supply of Portland’s favorite brew.” The two Main Shows will take place from September 26-28, featuring Modest Mouse, Tears for Fears, and Violent Femmes among many others.
In addition to the big outdoor concerts, the festival has smaller shows (The Night Shows) scheduled at clubs and smaller venues around Portland. The Main Shows and Night Shows require different tickets, but both are 21 and up, no surprise there. The festival takes place in some of Portland’s best venues: Zidell Yards hosts the outdoor shows; the Wonder and Crystal Ballrooms and Ash Street Saloon are among the well-known scenes for the Night Shows. The Yards are just 1.2 miles from downtown Portland, so it’s easy to access.
If you do it all, the festival really paints a great portrait of Portland, from the big outdoor venue in the historical South Waterfront District, to the clubs and bars around the city that host the Night Shows. And that makes sense, since the festival has been designed as an all-out thank you to the city that’s loved PBR so well; CMO Dan McHugh said, “We wanted to create a festival as uniquely original as the city itself…like a jukebox at midnight in some of our favorite Portland bars.” With a solid indie/rock lineup, plenty of PBR, and actually affordable tickets, Project Pabst is looking like just that. There’s even a bicycle and skateboard valet service. Hipsters rejoice.
Tickets are $25 for a day and $45 for the weekend—insanely cheap. A dollar from each ticket will go to The Jeremy Wilson Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that provides medical emergency financial assistance to musicians and their families.
