WATCH: Alt-J Releases New Video For “Hunger of the Pine”

Alt-J premiered the video for the first single off their forthcoming sophomore album This is All Yours ( due September 22) today following the track’s release earlier this summer. “Hunger of the Pine,” the first UK single released off the band’s second album, features layers of synth pop and alt rock reminiscent of their first album with the interesting surprise of a Miley Cyrus sampling.

The video for the track, directed by Nabil and based on a concept by the band’s Joe Newman, is equally intriguing and mystifying. The dreamlike scenes follow a slow motion Ship-Trap Island nightmare, the light of dusk rippling through trees as arrows rain down on the protagonist. Whether the video is an elaborate metaphor for self-destruction or a bad dream Newman once had, it’s well worth turning the volume loud and watching… a few times.
