2014 may mark the last Big Day Out Festival – at least for now. C3 Presents, the American company behind the Australian bash have confirmed that there will be no 2015 edition of Big Day Out.
It’s the end of an illustrious run. The first Big Day Out was all the way back in 1992. That years headliners? Violent Femmes and freakin’ Nirvana. The festival has only grown since. Iggy Pop, The Ramones, NIN, System of a Down, and Muse are just a short cross-section of the talent that’s shown up to BDO over the years. At least they ended on a high note. 2014 was a banner year (though not a financially successful one), with Peal Jam, Arcade Fire, and Blur sharing top billing – although the latter would eventually back out in a high-profile cancellation.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a complete shock. Promoter AJ Maddah, responsible for the 2013 and 2014 events, recently stood down, turning over his 50% share to C3 Presents. The company has announced their intentions to revive BDO, but it looks like 2015 is a wash.
