WATCH: Liz Phair, Ben Folds, Reggie Watts and Weird Al Audition for Star Wars’ Cantina Band

In honor of Star Wars Day, CollegeHumor released a wacky video for the occasion. This humorous take on Star Wars is titled, “Star Wars Cantina Band Auditions”.

Star Wars Day occurred on May 4th. The unofficial holiday was created to celebrate the franchise’s film series, books, and culture. The date was chosen out of convenience due to the play on words that can be created with the date; ”May the fourth be with you”.

The pun itself was first used on May 4, 1979 when Margaret Thatcher took office as Prime Minister in the United Kingdom. An advertisement in The London Evening News read, “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations”. Ever since then the observance of the unofficial holiday has grown immensely amongst fans. In 2013, Disney Parks got in on the fun and centered many events and festivities on the topic of Star Wars on May 4th that year.

CollegeHumor partnered with Lucasfilm in order to create the parody. The video includes a myriad of guest stars getting in on the spoof. Guest stars include Chris Daughtry, Ben Folds, Liz Phair, Reggie Watts, Mark McGrath, Jordin Sparks, Rick Springfield, Weird Al, Lisa Loeb, and mc chris. In the video, set in the Star Wars Universe, each singer is trying out for a role in Figrin D’an’s band the Modal Nodes.
