super-Earth Records with Nirvana Bass Player Krist Novoselic

It has been revealed that super-Earth is recording with Nirvana Bass Player Krist Novoselic. Super-Earth was formed by former R.E.M guitarist, Peter Buck, and ex-Sleater-Kinney frontwoman, Corin Tucker.

This band, whose name is still in progress, made its first public appearance last week at a pair of Portland Shows at The Society Ballroom. Super-Earth consists of Buck, Tucker, Scott McCaughey of Young Fresh Fellows and Minus 5, Bill Rieflin of Swans and Ministry, and Kurt Bloch who was formerly a member of Fastbacks. During the Portland performance, the band performed a total of 12 songs. The Oregonian reviewed the show saying, “The new material, speedy and loud, was full of power chords, enthusiasm and the occasional signature Buck arpeggio — less punk rock than power-pop but always knife-sharp.” During this performance Scott McCaughey played on bass instead of Novoselic. Although nothing is confirmed, it seems that the recent collaborations between Novoselic and super-Earth could result in an album.

In addition to the formation of this band, Buck and Tucker have worked together previously. Tucker contributed vocals to both Buck’s 2012 album (Peter Buck) and 2014 album (I Am Back to Blow your Mind Once Again). Also, they performed on stage together at the Sleater-Kinney Reunion with Pearl Jam.

While information such as when an album will be released or when the band will perform live with or without Novoselic is unknown, the formation of this band and the anticipation of what they will do next will continue to keep super-Earth in the spotlight.
