Fresh off her performance at this weekend’s Coachella, Lana Del Rey has released the track “West Coast,” from her upcoming new album Ultraviolence. Those lucky enough to have been at her festival set got to hear the song before anyone else, but today we’ve got the sexy new single for the rest of you.
Ultraviolence is still yet to see a release date, but rumors have circulated that Rufus Wainright worked with Del Rey on the new album, and The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach was behind production of it. The latter was more or less confirmed when Del Rey posted a picture of her and the blues guitarist on Twitter, with the caption “Me and Dan Auerbach are excited to present you Ultraviolence.”
This will be Del Rey’s third studio album, and first since 2012’s Born To Die. Until her latest is on the shelves, the songstress is busy with a run of spring tour dates, including this weekend’s second act of Coachella and this June’s Glastonbury Music Festival.
At Coachella’s Day 3 yesterday, Del Rey brought out “West Coast” to the crowd by announcing, “Since we are on the West Coast at the sexiest concert of the year I thought we would play a new one.” The result is something of a determined and commanding song that drops into a softer range once it hits the chorus.
