Thievery Corporation w/ Polica @ Tower Theater 5/10

On May 19th, join Thievery Corporation as they take over the stage at the Tower!

The duo released their newest album, Saudade, on April 1st. This marks the 7th studio release for the pair, since their 1997 debut LP, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. Each of the Thievery Corporation’s albums have been released on their own record label, ESL Music, which they founded in 1996. The record label was named after DC’s Eighteenth Street Lounge, where founders Rob Garza and Eric-Hilton (the owner of the lounge) first began.

Thievery Corporation is currently streaming their newest release on SoundCloud. The bossa nova inspired album features lead single “Depth of My Soul featuring Shana Halligan. The album gets  its name from Portuguese and Galician word that describes a “deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves.” The term has also been described as “the love that remains” after someone has gone. Thievery Corporation said that they “aimed not only to connect the music to the feeling of saudade, but also the lyrics for each composition.” That being said, check out the lyric video they put together for “Depth of My Soul.

The May 10th event at the Tower Theater is sure to be an exciting one as Thievery Corporation will be bringing along special guests Polica, an American synthpop band from Minnesota. Their released their second album, Shulamith, at the end of 2013. In January they released two videos in one, featuring the songs “I Need $” and “So Leave.” You can check the video out here.
