Alain Macklovitch, better known by A-Trak, is a DJ, turntablist, record producer and owner of Fool’s Gold Records. His older brother, David Macklovitch, is a member of the band Chromeo.
A-Trak was the first DJ to win all three major DJ competition titles: Disco Mix Club (DMC), International Turntablist Federation and Vestax. A-Trak was also the first DJ to win five World Championships. At the age of 15, he won the DMC World DJ Championship, making him the youngest winner of the competition. Pitchfork Magazine stated, “In the decade since he won the 1997 DMC World DJ Championship at a prodigious 15 years of age, A-Trak has turned the art of turntablism back toward its original party-rocking focus – the dude can scratch and beat-juggle, but he’s just as skilled at maintaining momentum and crafting seamless segues.”
Later, in 2004, Kanye West recruited him as his personal tour DJ. A-Trak worked with Kanye during his performances on MTV specials, the Grammy Awards, multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and even accompanied Kanye on his worldwide tour. A-Trak also recorded scratches on Kanye’s Late Registration (2005) and Graduation (2007) albums. In addition, A-Trak collaborated with Armand Van Helden, and created a disco house production duo under the stage name Duck Sauce. Duck Sauce was very successful worldwide and attained the No.1 spot on the U.S. Dance Billboard Chart. In 2010, Duck Sauce released “Barbra Streisand,” which accumulated over 70 million views on YouTube and hit platinum heights around the globe.
