The Pains of Being Pure of Heart @ Johnny Brenda’s 5/19

On May 19th, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will be at Johnny Brenda’s.

This past week, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart announced that their newest LP will be released on April 22nd. Days of Abandon marks the Brooklyn band’s 3rd album since 2009’s self-titled release. The new album sees the band stepping out in new direction. Frontman Kip Berman says of the upcoming release, “I didn’t want to make Belonger.” (A nod to their second album, 2011’s Belong). “This album was a chance to step back from that universal style of songwriting to something that was far more personal, more in keeping with my original ideals. I wanted the music to be joyful and full of light, even if the subjects were often dark.” Along with the album announcement came a video trailer for the opening track “Art Smock.
The band has released their newest single “Simple and Sure” for your streaming pleasure.

Opening for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart on May 19th will be Ablebody and Fear of Men. The UK group Fear of Men will release their debut album, Loom, on the same day as The Pains of Being Pure of Heart (4/22). They are currently streaming the album’s first track “Alta/Waterfall” via SoundCloud. You can grab a special colored-vinyl edition of the album a few days before the official release on Record Store Day, April 19th.

Tickets for the show went on sale today at noon, so be sure to get yours soon! You won’t want to miss this show! But don’t be surprised to see a change in the lineup you’ve come to know. Currently, frontman Kip Berman is the only listed member of the band on their Facebook page. Keyboardist Penny Wang recently left the band to focus on her job writing for Buzzfeed. In a recent interview with Stereogum, Kip Berman detailed the new live lineup. He said, “I’m really excited that Christoph Hochheim, who played on Belong and was with us since our first record in 2009, is back with us on guitar.” Christoph’s brother Anton Hochheim, currently in opening band Ablebody, will play drums for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Other friends may also join Berman for the upcoming tour.
