Local Native w/ Moses Sumney @ Stubb’s Bar-B-Q 4/9

Local Natives (previously known as Cavil at Rest) is an indie rock/pop band from Los Angeles. The band started making music in 2005; in 2009 their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was released in the UK. In 2010, the album was released in the U.S., and scaled up Billboards Top 200 New Artist Chart, and landed spot No. 3.  Clash Music describes Local Natives music as “afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies.” In 2013, they released their second album Hummingbird, and spent the year touring internationally and playing music festivals. They have appeared on late-night talk shows, including Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien.

Local Natives collaborates on everything the band puts out in the world, from lyrics, music and artwork. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was produced by Raymond Richards from Red Rockets Glare Studios. The album was named after a house they all shared in California where the majority of the album was written. Ryan Hahn (vocals, guitar, keyboard, mandolin) stated,  “It was insanely messy and there were always friends over knocking around on guitars or our thrift store piano…It was an incredible experience and I’ll never forget that time.”  The band started to gain attention from music press after playing nine shows during SXSW in 2009. Favorable music reviews from their multiple shows compared the group to Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend. Just last year, Local Natives released their second album, Hummingbird. The album was produced by Aaron Dessner (part of the rock band, The National).
