Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will appear at the 2014 SXSW Festival to give a lecture about songwriting and his musicianship.
According to Spin, the organizers of the festival just confirmed the lecture, which will focus on “the meaning of artistic vision” and Cocker’s growth as a musician. It will take place on Wednesday, March 12, at 12:30 p.m. Central time in the Austin Convention Center, Room 18ABC.
This year’s SXSW Film will feature the premiere of Sheffield: Sex City, a Pulp documentary. The film details the group’s relationship to their hometown of Sheffield, England, and how it affects Cocker’s lyrics. A never-before-released concert from 2012 is included in the documentary, which does not yet have an announced premiere date.
In 2013, Pulp collaborated with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem to record a track called “After You” and later released an album of the same name, in April. Also in 2013, Jarvis Cocker participated in the charitable Everything is New Project and appeared onstage with Beck for a Song Reader show. In January 2014, the track “Falling From the Sun,” a collaboration between Cocker and Margaret Bennett, began streaming as part of the Everything is New Project.
