Rumours abound, but all the king’s horses and all the king’s men could not predict the awesomeness to be contained in this year’s lineup for Coachella.
Coachella reigns supreme as the ultimate in US-based music festivals with a lineup that could not be disavowed by even the most particular of musical tastes. Though they’ve played with our hearts the past couple of weeks with hints released through various social media outlets, this official lineup has been announced mercifully early (last year’s wasn’t announced until January 24th). The traditional fraudulent posters eased our collective minds in the meantime, but only the official announcement could reassure that they indeed know what they’re doing over at the Coachella planning offices. This year’s festival will take place over two separate weekends, April 11-13 and April 18-20. Plenty of time to make the best of a truly once-in-a-lifetime lineup.
Outkast, I repeat, Outkast are ending their hiatus for Coachella, as speculated earlier this year, despite Andre’s declaration that no new Outkast album was in the works. Things could not get better (though they do). Muse is to headline the second day of the festival after news of brand-spankin new album in the works that is to ditch some of their newly found propensity for electronic and symphonic embellishments. Rounding out the holy trinity of headlining acts this year is Arcade Fire, or Reflektor, as they’re known on their current tour in support of their latest album.
To continue to the tone joyous tone, Beck has recovered significantly in recent time and shared material from his upcoming album. In slightly different state of renewal is Neutral Milk Hotel, after a decade-plus long hiatus, the band is ready to kick ass and leave scorched earth in their path.
Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister returns from his pacemaker insertion in the manner that only he could, ready to destroy any audience that intersects his path. For a man that’s downed a fifth of Jack every day since age 30, he’s doing pretty damn well.
