Founded in New York City in 2004, Moogfest has grown and relocated to Asheville, NC, where part of the inspiration for the festival, Moog Music synthesizers, are designed and built. The artists chosen to play the electronic fest each year tend to exhibit the kind of creative and innovative energy Robert Moog, inventor and man behind the machines, harbored, and next year’s lineup looks to be no different.
Kraftwerk, Chic and Giorgio Moroder headline the 2014 installment, and over 70 additional acts will be announced for the fest in the upcoming months. Moogfest will also be expanding the event to include “a conference of conversations” amongst such record labels as DFA, Warp, Fool’s Gold and AFROPUNK.
UPDATE 1/29: Moogfest has just announced the addition of major players Pet Shop Boys, M.I.A., Dillon Francis and Flying Lotus to the festival’s lineup. Dan Deacon, Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and David X. Cohen, creator of Futurama and writer for The Simpsons, have also been added as Moogfest Daytime Presenters.
UPDATE 2/25: Recently added to the daytime lineup for Moogfest are Nile Rodgers and Janelle Monae, and for the nighttime performances, Q-Tip, Saul Williams, Zed’s Dead, El-P and Keith Emerson.
