After reinventing the greatest heavy metal hits in a segment called “The Avett Brothers Sing Heavy Metal,” the folk-rock legends join a scratch-throated Chris Cornell on the Late Night stage for the captivating debut performance of two-faced track “Vanity.”
The North Carolinian quartet have been steadily growing in popularity over their 11-year run, aided no doubt by the spike in folk-rock hysteria in the late two-thousand-noughts. Having released their previous full-length, the Grammy-nominated The Carpenter, just last Fall, their momentum with producer Rick Rubin is palpabl. As they round out their Fall tour, The Avett Brothers prepare for the release of Magpie and the Dandelion, their eighth studio album since 2002.
Chris Cornell kicks off his own solo Songbook tour later this month, beginning in California and skirting Eastward along the US-Canadian border.
