Fans attending KROQ’s Weenie Roast on May 18th were in for a treat when alternative-rock legends Stone Temple Pilots took the stage with Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linking Park. They played a 40 minute set featuring old hits like “Sex Type Thing” and “Vasoline” while also debuting new song “Out of Time”. This development comes after former frontman Scott Weiland was fired from the band. It is unclear whether Bennington will be a permanent replacement but it certainly seems like the connection is thriving. Guitarist Dean DeLeo commented, “We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.” The song “Out of Time” is now available as a free download from the Stone Temple Pilot website.
Bennington claims the rest of his Linkin Park bandmates are supportive of his work with Stone Temple Pilots saying, “When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.” Linkin Park’s only scheduled appearance is at the 2013 Sunset Strip Music Festival.
