Low lights set the mood, building the anticipation for the final show of Bat For Lashes West Coast tour. All eyes on Natasha; she wore a long black skirt paired with a sparkling red caplet and matching halter top, her preferred outfit at Coachella, as well. Opening with a stunning delivery of “Lilies” and ditching her pleated caplet for “Glass,” Natasha warmed up. She asked everyone to dance for her, including a shout out to the balcony that they too, would be expected to participate.
She asked the crowd if they were as hot as she was and suggested that she might melt into a puddle on the floor. “Let’s get romantic,” she purred, making “Marilyn” very memorable and following it up with a “golden oldie”, as she called it, “Horse and I.” The audience was reasonably hot and bothered at this point and there was no turning back.
Fans reciprocated with lots of “I love you’s!” and complete captivation. You’re doing it right when every song you perform is met with cheers, as if it was to be the only song the crowd would hear all night. It was as if the crowd treated each song as though it was the first and the last, all the way to the end. “A Wall” was dedicated to her “sweetheart,” causing breathy sighs from the sea of people who couldn’t help but be enamored by the beauty before them.
Wrapping it up with “Pearl’s Dream,” BFL was as sad to leave the stage as we were to watch her go. Coming back for a fantastic encore, ending it with a powerful expression of “Daniel,” absolutely everyone was united in singing and dancing along. It was a truly sensual show delivered with quirky romance and a grace.
