The Hives were key players in the Garage Rock Revival of the 200o’s. Blown out amps, slamming guitars, screamy & scratchy vocals. It sound like an explosion. New album Lex Hives doesn’t necessarily offer any new facades from the band, but maybe that’s because they’ve been doing rock n’ roll properly from the beginning. It isn’t like garage rock requires a vast array of electronic science so that sound can be manipulated into something new at the drop of a hat. The Hives offer a more tangible sound that’s created simply with ingenuity and abuse of actual instruments. What a concept. These put on a great, energetic, sweaty, loud show and always offer a killer time.
